Wire Fraud Prevention for Real Estate Teams

Simple controls to reduce phishing and payment redirection risk while keeping agents productive on the move.

Published: 2026-02-26

Why real estate is targeted

Closings involve urgency, large payments, and lots of email. Attackers exploit that by impersonating agents, lenders, and title companies to redirect funds.

Prevention checklist

  1. MFA on email and all cloud apps (non-negotiable).
  2. Email protections: phishing filters + suspicious rule/forwarding detection.
  3. Device security: encrypted laptops/phones + patching + EDR.
  4. Payment verification policy: always verify wiring changes out-of-band.
  5. Secure document sharing: require sign-in, limit link sharing, track access.
  6. Backup/retention: protect contracts and transaction docs from deletion or compromise.
